S'gor Pakatan rides the Khalid wave
Anonymous_4031:
Thank you, Nathaniel Tan, for your simple, objective analysis of the performance of Khalid Ibrahim, MB of Selangor, who helmed Selangor Pakatan with sincerity and honesty.
While he might have made some mistakes, he had generally performed admirably well as an administrator. His vast experience as CEO of Guthrie gives him an edge over other MBs in BN states; and even among other Pakatan MBs, with perhaps the exception in Penang, which has a novice as CM.
Hopefully, Pakatan will see the big picture and not get bogged down with politicking. Khalid is an adminstrator par excellence. Given time, he will bring Selangor to greater heights.
Otak_otak: The failure of Pakatan to capture Putrajaya, in my analysis, is due to PAS, in particular its dismal performance in Kedah, which has 15 parliamentary seats. With 89 parliament seats, it only need 23 more seats to claim power.
PAS top leadership need to revamp its strategies. Their insistent to field a candidate for Kota Damasara and Semenyih to compete with PKR/PSM cause the votes to split.
Even though Pakatan did not manage to form the national government, at least we have Selangor.
As Selangoreans, I hope the menteri besar will make this state a well-sought-after place to stay, with an efficient government and civil service. The time has come where we cannot depend on the federal government for assistance.
Ah Hoe: Don't worry about PAS attempting to seize the MB position. That won't happen because DAP will be backing Khalid for the job.
However, it is a PKR person Khalid has to worry about. This person has long lusted after power in Selangor. What better position to have power than become MB. Thus he will challenge and sabotage Khalid.
ONG: PAS, for whatever reason, failed to change their misfiring Kedah MB Azizan Abdul Razak and ended up losing Kedah to Umno with, of all persons, Mukhriz son of Mahathir as the next MB.
Let's hope PKR will be wiser than PAS and not do something silly like having someone else to replace Khalid who has performed so well as Selangor MB.
Zainal: PAS has 15 seats while PKR has 14 seats in Selangor. Thank God, Hasan Ali has been booted out by PAS. Can you imagine the scenario if he had won a state seat through PAS?
It is okay for PAS to occupy the MB's post like in the case of Nizar Jamaluddin in Perak. But it would be a disaster for Pakatan if an egoistical person like Hasan Ali insists on becoming MB.
Selangor could be lost to BN in the next round of election; as proven in Kedah in 2013 and Terengganu in 2004. A reminder to Selangor PAS, if you insist on getting the MB seat, then this could be the start of the downfall of Pakatan. Don't let this happen.
Cantabrigian: No one is saying that Azmin Ali is not capable, and I agree that sometimes you should give a person a chance to prove himself. But in this case, Khalid has proven himself that he is the most suitable person for the job.
Why would Pakatan "try" a new person when the previous guy excelled with flying colours? DAP and PAS will have the final say, and both parties are comfortable working with Khalid in the past. If it is not broken, why fix it?
Boom Boom Pow!: I must disagree with Nathaniel. Khalid as a politician has acted more like a corporate figure than a MB. As the saying goes, "Justice must not only be done, it must also be seen to be done".
Petaling Jaya is filthy, road curbs are broken, inadequate parking, traffic rules are abandoned, street crimes on the rise, roads are full of holes, shop houses do not have trash bins in front of them, back lanes are filled with trash, rats and cockroaches, communities do not practice pest control as a whole, floods in certain areas, community centres and football fields are poorly maintained, developers including PKNS joint ventures do not allocate football fields or public pools, no substantial after-school activities for young men and women, and the list goes on and on.
These are the things that affect the rakyat. It's not just about managing corporations and economics. We want to see these things above improve as soon as possible. We are sick of the filth and dirty hawkers and rubbish-laden sidewalks and shops.
Clever Voter: Khalid may not have the charisma we see in PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim or Lim Guan Eng, but his years of business acumen and management are valuable. He has proven his worth to turn around the Selangor treasury, which was badly abused by his predecessors.
Khalid has been underrated, and his ability to engage his stakeholders from the boardroom to the kampung is rare in a society where greed, patronage and self-interest are so rampant. He must be retained as the MB.
Hermit: Khalid must be installed as the MB so that he could implement his dream of privatising the water supply owned by both Selangoreans and KLites consumers. This Pakatan leader has championed privatisation for the rakyat as against privatisation for the cronies.
Similarly, Lim Eng Guan, another financial wizard in Penang, must adopt the same for his privatised highways and tunnel owned by Penangites.
Ketuanan Rakyat: PKR should re-nominate Khalid as MB. He has done a very good job and should be give another term as MB.
Maybe after two terms, PKR can consider another person for the position. Khalid is not a politician neither he is controversial person. Do not change just to please other party leaders.
Swipenter: Khalid has done an excellent job as MB in spite of hurdles he had to overcome, both within and without. It would be a disaster for Pakatan to replace him as MB now.
The time is not right for Azmin Ali to take over. Look at how Azizan of PAS messed up in Kedah. Both the state assemblies of Penang and Selangor have done a good job clearing up the mess inherited from BN and put their respective states in good running and clean condition.
Taikohtai: Khalid is definitely a fantastic administrator and should be retained as MB. Azmin's credentials are suspect but he is better suited to fight at federal level.
Give Khalid another term and Selangor (as well as Penang) shall put all the BN states to shame. What better way to showcase Pakatan's credibility than this?
888: The good showing in the Selangor election by Pakatan, is largely the result of good leadership by Khalid in the running of the state government. Pakatan should not change a good captain, or else it will taste defeat in the next round.
Carpe Diem: Now that Pakatan has another five years, please do your utmost to ensure that Selangor becomes the model of good governance and management for the whole country.
Yes, get into a healthy competition with Penang and Kelantan, benchmark the best with each other, discard the bad practices and God willing, the light will shine on all three Pakatan states.
This will be the surest way you can show the nation about what it takes. Then GE14 will truly be "Ini kali pasti"!
