Election Commission chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof's statement that the indelible ink the EC used in GE13 did not last long because it could have deteriorated when kept in police stations has been challenged.

NONE PKR vice-president Tian Chua said there have been reports nationwide that the indelible ink could be washed off easily and PKR therefore wonders what type of material the EC used for the indelible ink.

"If silver nitrate-based materials were used, it would not happen this way, for unlike alcohol or dye-based materials, it will last longer. If silver nitrate-based ink is used, you need not even shake the bottle," Tian Chua said.

"The ineffectiveness of the indelible ink has raised doubts on the possibility of double voting. The reason given by Aziz is not logical," he said.

There was no public demonstration of the procedure. The people also did not know whether proper indelible ink was used and the EC should therefore explain the matter, Tian Chua added.

Tian Chua, who is also Batu MP claimed that Abdul Aziz had told the press that the indelible ink may have deteriorated while being kept in the cell, resulting in its ineffectiveness. 

He said the EC had assured the MPs before the election that it would use the best indelible ink but the problem had surfaced despite the pledge.

“There are 11 million people who voted and fraud could have existed on a large scale as the ink, which is supposed to remain permanent, could be washed off. I think it is impossible for the ink to be washed off if silver nitrate-based materials were used.

“It is either the ink that was used is not from silver nitrate, or it could have been that the EC chief had lied about its quality or content,” he said.

Selangor MB to be named this week?

Asked about the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar, Tian Chua said he believed an announcement would be made soon, within this week, after the candidate is endorsed by the Sultan of Selangor.

“I cannot say how soon but it could be as early as this week,” he said.

NONE Both DAP and PAS have expressed their support for the reappointment of caretaker menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim ( right ).

Meanwhile, Selangor PKR election director Borhan Aman Shah said in his personal view and in terms of seniority, it should be party deputy president Azmin Ali who should be the menteri besar because he is also Selangor PKR chief.

However, Borhan said this was for the Pakatan national leaders to decide.

Borhan also thanked the Selangor voters for returning Pakatan to power in the state.

He also acknowledged that there were problems in the campaign, especially with PAS contesting the Kota Damansara seat that was also contested by PSM's Dr Nasir Hashim on the PKR ticket.

“However, let PAS deal with the matter. I understand that PAS Selangor deputy commissioner Khalid Samad has assured that action would be taken,” he said.

Borhan believed that had there be one-on-one contests in Kota Damansara and in  Semenyih, PKR would have won the two seats as well.
