Villagers in Sungai Rengit, Johor, are fuming after being excluded from a public consultation session by Kuo Kuang Petrochemical Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which is constructing a plant in Pengerang.

"The organiser stated that the project is not the same as the Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development (Rapid), (but) is at a different location and affects different villagers," said Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa in a statement yesterday.

azlan However, Er insisted that the Kuo Kuang project is just next door to the Rapid project (left) and should be seen as one and the same.

He also criticised those responsible for failing to publicise the dialogue required for the Detailed Environment Impact Assessment study in major newspapers.

"According to (anti-Rapid group) Gabungan NGO Pengerang's (GNP) investigation, not a single villager (in Sungai Rengit) was informed of the dialogue," he said.

Er raised concern that the dialogue may just be intended to be a rubber stamp for the project, rather than a genuine consultation.

He added that, following negotiations with GNP, the company had agreed to another dialogue to be held in Sungai Rengit.

The initial session was changed to an introduction to the project.
