Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was sworn in for his second term as the Selangor menteri besar at 10.10am today.

NONE He took his oath of office before Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at the Istana Alam Shah in Klang.

Khalid's political secretary Faekah Husin said members of the royalty, state government-linked companies and heads of state agencies were present.

Asked why none of the state assemblypersons was present, Faekah explained that the guest list was prepared by the palace.

Khalid was quick to point out that one of his first challenges in his second term is to attempt to complete Pakatan Rakyat's long-standing ambition to complete the water industry restructuring process in Selangor.

"I have prepared a letter to the prime minister and I hope that he responds positively according to the Water Services Industry Act (WSIA)," he said, adding that the letter is to be sent tomorrow.

NONE Khalid's appointment was previously disputed by PKR deputy president Azmin Ali ( right ), who said that the Selangor PKR leadership has not been consulted over the matter. It is noted that Khalid did not disclose whether Azmin would be part of the state executive council line-up.

"I have promised with everyone involved that I would not reveal anything to the public until it (the line-up) is resolved," he stressed.

However, he added that the line-up could be completed within the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, the sultan's private secretary Mohamad Munir Bani said that there were three reasons why the sultan had agreed to appoint Khalid as a menteri besar again.

NONE This was because all three Pakatan component parties had agreed to endorse only Khalid as the menteri besar candidate as Khalid meets all the necessary conditions, not to mention that his past experience helps "smoothen the state administration".

"The delay (in appointing the menteri besar) is because the sultan was waiting for menteri besar candidates to be provided by all three component parties," he said in a statement.

"The sultan waited until all three parties submitted their candidates and was satisfied that only one name was suggested," he added.
