Following the challenge by Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan, Pakatan Rakyat has decided to invite Election Commission (EC) chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof to brief the opposition coalition over allegations of fraud and irregularity during the May 5 general election.

The matter was agreed upon during Pakatan's secretariat council meeting today.

NONE PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said the invitation to Abdul Aziz ( left ) to meet with Pakatan will be sent soon.

“I hope that Abdul Aziz will not reject the invitation from Pakatan.

“If Abdul Aziz does (reject it), then we hope that Ahmad will play a role in ensuring the EC chairperson’s presence.

“Now we kick the ball to the EC for Abdul Aziz to face us,” Saifuddi said.

Yesterday, Ahmad was reported to have challenged Pakatan to invite Abdul Aziz to answer allegations of alleged electoral fraud and irregularities.

Besut irregularity

Abdul Aziz had briefed the Umno and BN information chiefs in a closed dialogue session.

Saifuddin said besides the 27 Parliament seats identified by PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli yesterday over allegations of fraud, it also received another complaint this morning.

This, he claimed, came from an EC officer himself in Besut, Terengganu who complained and made a police report that 24 of its officers had been confined in a room by the BN candidate (Idris Jusoh) who asked them to make marks on the ballot papers and note their serial numbers.

“A copy of the police report has also been sent to the Pakatan secretariat and we are also investigating the matter. This, too, we would like the EC to explain,” he said.

The issue is valid, which we will bring up to the EC for them to answer all these claims.

Besut was won by former Terengganu menteri besar Idris Jusoh who won against PAS’s Riduan Mohamad Nor with a majority of 8,342 votes.
