Former Kelantan menteri besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said he was willing to continue as PAS spiritual leader despite his ill health.

“I am willing to hold office if I am still needed by the party. It is a daunting task to serve as spiritual leader as the duty entails carrying out services in the manner Prophet Muhammad governed an Islamic country,” he said.

Speaking to reporters at a ‘Your Service is Remembered’ event in Kota Baru in honour of his service as menteri besar for 23 years, Nik Aziz said he would continue to pursue his party’s struggle based on Islam although he was no longer the menteri besar.

Present was his successor, Ahmad Yakob.

Nik Aziz had said that he would relinquish his post as Kelantan PAS commissioner.

Meanwhile, Ahmad told reporters that he would continue the state administration’s policy started by Nik Aziz.

Ahmad said the first session of the 13th state assembly would be held in June.
