MCA's disastrous performance in the general polls and the acceptance of an Johor exco position by party leader Tee Siew Kiong, has led to the resignation of its Kedah Youth chief Ong Soon Boon today.

Ong quit as state Youth chief, state deputy chief and service and complaints bureau chief, but remains as an ordinary member to push for reforms within the party.

"Since party leaders break their own promises, there is no point for me to stay on and hold any position," said Ong.

Ong said the central leadership had agreed to refuse any government post prior to the elections.

However, the party's national organising secretary, Tee Siew Kiong, who is Chua's right hand man, had just accepted the post of exco member in Johor.

"This sets a precedent for others to go against the party's decision, one which was approved by all levels, by all divisions and branches.

"For Tee to go against this is clearly disrespectful to the party and is incorrect," he added.

"Before that, he did not oppose the party's decision and now he wants to join the state cabinet. Isn't this considered cheating the Chinese community?"

Quit first

Ong said if Tee wanted the state exco position, he should quit the party first.

NONE On Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's ( right ) comment that he would still consider the MCA for cabinet posts, Ong said this should be discussed by the central leadership.

"A people's government should be able to take care of the interest of all people. Even without Chinese representatives, there should not be any serious impact," Ong said.

Ong however agreed that there should be an exception for Kedah as BN recaptured the state in the recent polls.

"If you refuse to join the government after winning in the election, what's the point of people voting for you?" he queried.

On whether the MCA should convene an emergency meeting to decide on the party's leadership, Ong said the internal election process should be allowed to go on.

"Let the delegates choose their new leaders in the coming party election," he said.

Ong said he had conveyed his decision to resign to the members of the state youth executive committee and left it to them to decide if they wanted to follow suit.

"MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek has often said resignations that were announced publicly would be regarded as valid. Anyway, I will still tender a formal resignation letter in two days," he added.
