Despite Dr S Subramaniam being moved out of the Human Resources Ministry in the new cabinet and the departure of Maybank chief executive officer Abdul Wahid Omar, who is now a minister, the National Union of Bank Employees (Nube) will continue picketing against government-linked banks.

NONE The picket will be held nationwide today and tomorrow, after working hours.

Till now, Nube said in a statement today, government-linked banks such as Maybank, CIMB and Bank Muamalat, continued to actively embark on anti-union actions.

"The GLC banks should also review the appointment of their human resource personnel who are responsible for the various violations of the basic human rights of workers and misrepresentations made to the different authorities," NUBE said in the statement.

It expected all parties to resolve issues at the negotiation table, but instead the bank management used the avenue to showcase its stubbornness, arrogance and malice towards workers rights and welfare.

'Damage has already been done'

"We believe that the damage has already been done against the lower income banking employees and the only resolution is for the parties to take responsibility and resolve the issues fast."

As a result of this situation, Nube will continue to hold its picket nationwide today and tomorrow as well.

NONE This will be a follow-up to NUBE's May 1 protest in the parliamentary constituency of Segamat, which Subramaniam, who is also the MIC deputy president, successfully defended.

A dermatologist by profession, Subramaniam is now the new health minister while Wahid has been appointed Minister in the Prime Minister's Department.

Nube said it would continue to raise its demands with the relevant authorities and hoped  that the new minister Riot and the incoming Maybank CEO would not follow in the wayward paths taken by Subramaniam and Wahid.

"We are also hopeful that the outstanding disputes and issues would be resolved within the first 100 days of them assuming office.

"Meanwhile, we will continue with our pickets until all disputes with the banks are resolved," the statement said.
