Bernama found that a number of schools in the city had postponed their celebration, among them SJKC Chong Kwok, Jalan Raja Laut which would hold it on May 23 after the exam.
However, tt was a merry atmosphere with singing and laughter at Sekolah Pendidikan Khas Cacat Penglihatan, Jalan Batu which has 38 visully impaired students.
“Our students could not wait to celebrate teachers day. They started asking about it from January itself in order to prepare the performances and get presents,” the school’s principal, Ahmad Baki Musli, told Bernama .
Eight-year-old Nurul Khairinna Ramlan, who has been blind from birth, and her classmates sang a song titled ‘Thank You Teacher’.
Over at SJKT Appar, Jalan Raja Laut, the mid-year exam was held in the morning, after which its 107 students started their celebration at 11am.
“All our students, teachers and parents worked together for today’s function. It’s a big celebration although the exam is still on,” said the school’s headmistress KK Peramah.
Year Six pupils Suvarnemugi S and Naagadarsenee C, both 12, said they were grateful to their teachers for educating and guiding them and added that they were determined to do well in the UPSR and score 7As.
