The Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Alumni Association has lodged a police report denying an allegation that one of the panellists at its discourse on Sunday had uttered seditious remarks.  

Its secretary-general Shukri Ishak denied the criticism levelled at former Appeals Court judge Mohd Noor Abdullah by DAP chairperson Karpal Singh that Mohd Noor’s remarks relating to vernacular schools were deemed to be seditious.

Mohd Noor was quoted as saying that Article 152 of the constitution only recognised one language that is Bahasa Malaysia to unite Malaysians and for official usage.

He made the remarks at the ‘GE13 Post-Mortem Discourse: Leadership Discussions and Survival of the Muslims’ organised jointly by the UiTM Alumni Association the Peninsular Malay Students Federation (GPMS).

Denying that Mohd Noor had made racist remarks during the discourse, Shukri said: “After playing back the recording, we found no such words being uttered. In fact, the discourse focused on Muslim solidarity because we are worried about the recent voting trend (in the just concluded GE13).  

“We need to raise public awareness that Malaysia is a multiracial society and the need to trust each other. So, we have to do something to rectify the situation,” he told reporters after lodging a report at the Dang Wangi police station in Kuala Lumpur today.  

Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainuddin Ahmad, when contacted, confirmed that he had received the report.
