DAP will lodge a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over several pro-Pakatan sites being allegedly blocked after the dissolution of Parliament in early April.

DAP national adviser Lim Kit Siang that this contravened the Multimedia Super Corridor’s (MSC) guarantee of no internet censorship.

"It is clear that for this period (between dissolution and the general election), Malaysian internet users, particularly visitors to Pakatan Rakyat websites and others deemed unfriendly to Barisan Nasional, have been put under surveillance, censorship, filtering and blockade without their knowledge - which is a gross violation of the MSC guarantee of no internet censorship," said Lim in a statement today.

He claimed that there has been conclusive proof that a form of internet censorship called deep packet inspection (DPI) is being used on Malaysian internet users.

"DPI allows blocking of a specific content on the Internet without blocking the entire site," he said.

He listed ten websites that he said had been affected during the campaigning period through a similar censorship method, including content from Malaysiakini .

On May 3 just two days before the general election, Malaysiakini chief executive officer Premesh Chandran lodged a report with MCMC over attempts to choke access to the portal’s content.

MCMC subsequently denied that there were attempts to cripple the internet media, blaming it on rumour.

Meanwhile, Lim said DAP's IT manager Goh Kheng Teong will lodge the complaint with MCMC, and urged the commission to carry out an "independent and in-depth investigation" over the allegations.
