The Malaysian Retirees Association (Pesara) has urged the opposition to stop defaming and inciting political hatred of the government.

Its president Wan Mahmood Pawan Teh said the opposition should not instill such hatred just because it is unhappy with results of the recent 13th general election, as this would divide the people and stunt national growth.

"Bringing up issues whose veracity we are unsure of, can cause misunderstanding, chaos and destruction in the country," he said when contacted today.

Instead, he said, mistakes made by any candidate or political party regarding the election process should be resolved through the legal system, by filing a petition in court.

Wan Mahmood said this suggestion was among five resolutions approved by Pesara at a special meeting in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
