Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has written an official letter to state police chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi, urging him to seriously probe the various incidents of violence allegedly perpetrated by BN supporters since the general elections.

Describing the group as “gangsters”, Lim said they have broken the law and action must be taken.

“Together with the letter, I am attaching five police reports for the CPO’s reference,” said Lim in a statement.

“His attention and cooperation would be deeply appreciated,” Lim added.

As Lim is currently overseas, his letter had been forwarded to the press via his special assistant, Wong Kim Fei.

NONE Attached with the letter are police reports lodged by Lee Ah Gaik, Oh Kheng Kwang, journalists Low Chia Ming ( Malaysiakini ) and Lai Thiem Wah ( Nanyang Siang Pau) and Rozaimin Elias, who is special aide to Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari.

Lee had lodged the report on behalf of her husband Teoh Hock Choon who was badly beaten up by thugs on April 16.

Teoh landed in hospital in a coma for 16 days after he was beaten up by a group of people in Jalan Perak after he brought down a 1Malaysia flag, which was put up in his house compound without his permission.

The other victims include siblings Oh Kheng Kwang and Oh Kok Kwang.

They were attacked by another thuggish group along Jalan Macalister on May 3, after attending Pakatan’s ‘Ubah’ rally,flooded by thousands at the Esplanade field, two days ahead of polling day.

Attacked with bottles and chairs

They were set upon with bottles and chairs in a restaurant and sustained injuries, with 10 stitches on their bodies.

Another three involved Rozaimin and two others - Akmal Zakaria and Kew Si Cheng - who attended Monday’s candlelight vigil in support of student Adam Adli Abd Halim in front of Universiti Sains Malaysia and were shoved by a rowdy group.

Adam Adli, a student activist, was charged under the Sedition Act today for allegedly calling for the elected BN government to be toppled by undemocratic means.

The two journalists - Low and Lai - were on duty covering the event when their arms were hit by the group when they attempted to photograph the incident.

NONE Lim said the reports had been lodged at Jelutong, Jalan Pattani and Sungai Nibong.

Last night, NGO activists were harassed and a journalist hit after another rally in support of Adam Adli was held at the Esplanade.

Those involved have since lodged police reports over the matter, while BN has denied any involvement with the hostile group or thuggery incidents.

In an immediate response, George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said that the police have identified the individuals who were involved in the fracas last night at the Esplanade.

He added that swift action would be taken against those involved.

Gan also confirmed receiving a police report from Oriental Daily journalist Ooi Choon Nam who had been roughed up in last night's incident.

Penang Suaram coordinator Sean Ho and PSM central committee member Soh Sook Hwa were also chased and harassed last night.

"But the vigil was an illegal gathering, as it was held without police notice and goes against Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act," noted Gan in a press conference today.

"Police will investigate the incident under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

"I advise the public to stop participating in such gatherings," he stressed.
