PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said the party needs more resources, lest it becomes a “lame duck” in the politics of war.

NONE He said this in his opening speech of both PKR Women’s and Youth’s wings congress, where he stated that one important aspect in a party’s development is “finances”.

“Politics is a type of war, and in strategising war, two mandatory elements are perception and resources.

“In the political war, we need to build and manage the people’s perception through manifestoes and political communication, but all this would become a ‘lame duck’ if we do not have resources.

“Do we want PKR to become a ‘lame duck’ political party?” he asked.

Azmin had previously used the same term earlier in the month, when referring to the next Selangor menteri besar, who had yet to be officially named at the time.

He had reportedly stated the latter should not be a “ lame duck ” who allows himself to be led by others.

When approached later, he denied setting his sights on state resources in the Pakatan Rakyat-controlled state, stressing he would condemn such a move.

Instead, he said he was referring to human capital, in the form of training, so that its members understand the party’s ideals.

When asked about the use of the “lame duck” term, he said it was only a general term for something that could no longer move forward and there is no need to be too “sensitive” about the word.

“I don’t want PKR to become a lame duck party. This is a dynamic party,” he said.

The term was also used by Port Klang assemblyperson Abdul Khalid Ibrahim ( above ) last Sunday, when, in an interview with Malaysiakini , he said he will not become a ' lame-duck MB ' as he was confident in his ability to lead the state for a second term.
