A 72-year-old woman in Kuantan, who has been on a hunger strike to highlight the alleged hazards of the Lynas Advanced Material Plant (Lamp), has ended her protest after 30 days.

NONE Tuw Yin Lan, fondly known by her Chinese name Auntie Mei, agreed to end her fast at noon yesterday.

  

“Auntie Mei has ended her hunger strike by first consuming milk,” said Ketari state assemblyperson Lee Chin Chen in a Facebook posting.

Tuw, who had shaved her head for the protest, had survived only on water over this period.

She had sought the intervention of the Agong to close the rare earths facility in Gebeng, Pahang.

"I am prepared to sacrifice my life, if it brings a thousand meanings to the three-year struggle of Your Majesty's subject (who has fought) to stop the plant's operation," she said in a petition to the Agong.
