After serving four terms as Johor menteri besar, Abdul Ghani Othman is speculated to be appointed chairperson of of Sime Darby Bhd.

According to Business Times , an official announcement will be made soon by the company.

The company, owned by Putrajaya-controlled Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), has been without a chairperson since Nov 8 last year, following the retirement of Musa Hitam.

Former chief secretary to the government Samsudin Osman is the current interim chairperson.

Abdul Ghani's illustrious political career suffered a major blow when he failed in the contest for the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat, losing to DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

He was a former academic before participating in politics, which led to him becoming a cabinet minister and later the Johor chief minister.
