Umno's Zam trashes 'I love PM' pitch

your say Lexicon: This is worse than the night of long knives, it's going to be four months of long knives. It's ironic that former information minister Zainuddin Maidin (widely known as Zam), a political has-been, thinks he should give advice to Najib Abdul Razak, another buffoonish failure.

But at least this infighting in Umno will see them split sooner rather than later. There's no hope for Umno in its present state. Once it splits, there's a possibility of reform.

JMC: It's impossible for Najib to reform his Umno even if he wants to. There are too many hawks in his party.

Onn Jaafar failed many years ago when Umno was more liberal and open-minded. There is no way anyone can open up Umno to other races when extremists like Perkasa are around.

The believers of Ketuanan Melayu see no logic and hear no moderation. They are oblivious to the changes in the global world where race does not matter. They will go the same way as the white supremacists of yesteryear.

ZhuGeLiang: Is this the beginning of the end for Najib? Former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad already started the ball rolling when he said Najib will probably stay on as there are no suitable candidates who can replace him.

Knowing how cunning Dr M is, I am sure he did not mean what he said. Now Zam and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, both close associates of Dr M, are criticising Najib, calling him a clown. Where is the respect for our PM?

If I can remember correctly, a young student was threatened with the Sedition Act for stepping on the PM's poster. It looks like there is a big battle ahead for Najib.

SusahKes: I really pity Najib. From day one, we knew that Umno will be going for his head post-GE13; but the fact that old nincompoops and has-beens like Zam and Daim can make noise, while Najib remains in cryogenic state - that makes me feel sorry for him. He is PM, tapi tak da majority mandate.

Where were Zam and Daim when Najib was holding Psy concerts and having Selangor BN coordinator Mohd Zin Mohamed send us obnoxious SMSes? If I recall, Daim even predicted that Selangor would go back to Umno-BN.

I feel sorry for all the Umno leaders who cried in the last AGM; Mahathir, Daim and company are making big time idiots out of you.

Rakyat Malaysia: "A blackout at a school in Sedim, Kedah on the same day also lasted 10 minutes. The more reports are made, the more people will believe. This is their strategy," said Zainuddin.

What kind of argument is this? So he admitted that there was indeed a blackout. BN-Umno continue to deny the evidence. They will never admit that anything is wrong with the Election Commission (EC) or BN. But it is all out there for everyone to see. You can't hide the truth.

Cala: Give Najib the credit where it is due. The scathing attacks from Zam on Najib are trivial, superficial and inconsequential.

In the Malaysiakini report, Zam accused Najib of wrongdoing on four areas: i) Mooting a multiracial BN party; ii) Odd for Najib to promote himself at hawker centres; iii) Ill-conceived "I love PM banners"; and iv) Banning of opposition mouthpieces.

Of the four, the first issue appears to be more serious. But then it is a proposal very much on the drawing board. Issues (ii) and (iii) are tactical in nature; they are implementation weaknesses, while issue (iv) by right should be addressed to Zahid Hamidi, the new home minister.

As a matter of fact, Najib is much more effective than Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in trying to project an image that he is the prime minister for every Malaysian.

He, too, has put into motion a set of performance indicators for every department where it can be assessed. Of course, there are weaknesses in the Najib administration, to put the blame on him is unfair and unjust.

Longjaafar: Before you criticise Zam, look at his background. To begin with, he is not highly educated, and to reach his position in Utusan Malaysia was a monumental achievement.

To cap it off, he was even appointed a minister for a while. He did bungle once - his criticism of Mahathir for giving a speech in English. He was only forgiven when he wrote a book, praising Mahathir.

In this case of his criticism of Najib, he found courage only after Daim came out with a scathing statement on Najib's advisers. Had Daim not spoken, Zam would never dare to scold Najib. He learnt his lesson long ago.

Quigonbond: A case of the pot calling the kettle black. The only thing I'm objecting to is calling the 505 movement ‘communist'. So typical if the Umno right-wing.

LKT: These Umno leaders just do not understand anything about democracy at all. The rakyat are not stupid nor short of common sense.

We will not just accept what is being said as the gospel truth. Selective prosecution is plain for all to see and yet Zahid and the inspector-general of police (IGP) denied it.

The rakyat can see that the EC and the National Registration Department (NRD) have conspired to ensure a BN parliamentary majority through gerrymandering . After democracy has been raped by Umno and gang, is it wrong for the rakyat to criticise them?

Please don't insult our intelligent for a moment to justify what Umno has done. In a true democracy, no way a party with only 47 percent of voters support can get to form the next government over a party that has 51 percent of voters support.

Only in Malaysia will we have an EC that doesn't see a problem with constituencies that have 15,000 voters in Putrajaya and 140,000 voters in Kapar.

Fair Play: It looks like Umno is heading towards self-destruct mode. If the moderates within Umno find it impossible to reform to take into account the present political reality (47 percent support), they might jump ship and move to greener pastures.

Hang Babeuf: "Communist surrogates?", " Chinese communists"? And "every day Chinese people in black smear a legitimate election"?

It is all so devilishly cunning - the way these "Chinese communists" are also the same guys as the capitalist bloodsuckers who are maintaining their stranglehold on the national economy, a vicious plutocratic stranglehold which can only be released, so other ‘ Utusan ' wise-men say, by means of an "economic jihad".

So clever, those devious Chinese - the way they control both sides of the economic and political street!

Really, it is about time that somebody wrote a treatise on ‘The Paranoid Style in Malay Ethnosurvivalist Politics'.
