The newly-appointed Selangor government executive council members must declare their assets before the state legislative assembly sits for the first time on June 28, said Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

In particularly, assets gained by exco members during their tenure must be declared as well.

“Last year we already had what is termed as an asset declaration, and we shall proceed with what we had done before. Every asset gained while serving as an exco member must also be reported,” said Khalid in a press conference after the swearing-in ceremony for exco members at the Alam Shah palace in Klang today.

“This includes old exco members and new exco members.”

Last Tuesday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel had proposed that all elected representatives in Parliament and state assemblies declare their assets every three years to ensure the “integrity of government administration”.

However, Khalid said that it is not necessary for assemblypersons to declare their assets.

“I think what is important is the exco (members). After all, they are the ones who will carry out executive responsibilities.”

NONE He reiterated that the restructuring of water supply is the first task of his administration to upgrade the water service of the people in Klang Valley.

Khalid revealed that he has written to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Maximus Johnity Ongkili ( right ) to begin the negotiations of water restructuring and hoped that a meeting could be materialised next week.

Apart from water restructuring, he also requested Maximus to discuss the issue of the high-tension cable project in Rawang.

He noted that another focus of the state government is to upgrade the infrastructure in the state, especially the roads.

Khalid said that the swearing-in ceremony for the state speaker, deputy speaker and assemblypersons will be held on June 21, prior to the assembly sitting one week later.

He said that the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, will grace the ceremony.
