DAP appeared to be unhappy with the number of Selangor cabinet positions allocated to the party.
In a statement yesterday evening, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng alluded that his party should have received more exco positions for winning more seats in Selangor.
While welcoming the appointment of Subang Jaya state assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh as Selangor state legislative assembly speaker, making her the first female to hold such a post in Malaysia, he expressed disappointment in the allocation of excos.
“Her historic achievement for DAP has also made up for the disappointment felt by DAP in the exco line-up announced by Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim despite winning more seats in the last general election.
“Despite the disappointment, DAP shall move on and hopes that Khalid will adhere to his commitment to DAP to give us greater representation in future,” said Lim (

During the general election, DAP won 15 state seats in Selangor, two more than in 2008, while PAS won 15, up seven from the previous election.
Following this, DAP was allocated three positions in the state cabinet while PAS received four, one up from before.
PAS Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad had alleged that the Selangor Palace had a role in determining the composition of the state cabinet and had imposed a condition on its ethnic composition.
However the sultan’s private secretary yesterday denied Khalid’s statement and attributed the delay in finalising the exco to the menteri besar having gone abroad for medical treatment.
Lim's indirect criticism may draw the ire of Pakatan Rakyat allies, particularly PAS.
For two terms in a row, Lim, as Penang chief minister, had sidelined PAS in the Penang cabinet. PAS has one seat in the present Penang state assembly.
