The Coroner’s Court in Petaling Jaya today set June 20 for decision on an inquest to determine the cause of death of six-year-old William Yau Zhen Zhong, whose body was found at the Kampung Sungai Sireh jetty last Jan 24.

Coroner Mohd Hezri Shaharil set the date after hearing the testimony of 21 witnesses in the inquest which began last March 11.

Earlier, Senior Investigating Officer ASP Mohamad Zainal Abdullah told the court that there was no concrete evidence to link the involvement of the boy’s family in his death.

Mohamad Zainal, 35, from the Subang Jaya District Police headquarters, said this followed investigations conducted against the boy’s family members, including mother Goh Ying Ying, 26, father Yau Kok Kang, 33, grandmother Chee Chong Moi, 56, and seven-year-old brother Eric Yau Zhen Ming.

He said they also obtained the service of a psychology expert to evaluate the witnesses’ testimony.

“Indeed, it is hard for us to accuse them because there is no solid evidence,” he said when questioned by Mohd Hezri.

William’s body was found eight days after he was reported missing at Jalan Putra Mahkota, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, believed after getting down from the family car to look for his parents who had gone to an electrical shop nearby.

Meanwhile, asked on a telephone call received by Goh, Mohamad Zainal said the suspect had been charged under Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 and fined RM7,000 by the Shah Alam magistrate’s court.

He said the suspect was only taking advantage of the situation facing the victim’s family.

Deputy public prosecutor Lee Keng Fatt and lawyer Goh Kim Lian assisted in the inquest proceedings.
