Former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo today filed a notice of appeal to the Federal Court against the appellate court’s decision yesterday upholding the conviction and the one-year jail sentence meted out to him.

It was filed through lawyer MM Athimulan at the Federal Court registry.

Yesterday, a Court of Appeal panel comprising Abu Samah Nordin, Azahar Mohamed and Aziah Ali unanimously upheld the conviction and  the sentence on Dr Mohamad Khir for acquiring two plots of land and a bungalow unit in 2007.

The court also upheld the decision of the Shah Alam High Court on Dec 23, 2011 which ordered the accused to forfeit the ownership on the property obtained and hand it over to the government.

Dr Mohamad Khir, 48, was accused of obtaining for himself and his wife, Zahrah Kechik, 46, two plots of land and a house at No. 8 and 10, Jalan Suasa 7/1L, in Putrajaya from Ditamas Sdn Bhd through its director.

The former Sungai Panjang state assemblyperson committed the offence at the official residence of the Selangor menteri besar at Jalan Permata 7/1, Section 7, Shah Alam, on May 29, 2007.
