Selangor PKR is seeking answers as to why PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail is to be appointed political liaison officer in the Selangor Menteri Besar’s Office.

Malay daily Sinar Harian , in its Selangor/Kuala Lumpur edition today, quotes Selangor PKR chief Azmin Ali as saying that the matter has caused “uneasiness” among the state's grassroots leaders.

The daily also quoted Selangor PKR information chief Suhaimi Shafie, as saying that the matter was never discussed at the Selangor PKR leadership council.

“The Selangor leadership wants an explanation from (Selangor MB) Abdul Khalid Ibrahim. There are questions as to how Saifuddin, a politician, can be appointed to an state government administrative role,” he reportedly said.

“At the 9th PKR congress, the Selangor PKR leadership's suggestions were shot down, with the excuse that administrative matters should be handled by non-politicians.”

Suhaimi argued that qualified Pakatan Rakyat members should be appointed so as to “holistically strengthen organisational matters, starting from the MB's office, to Menteri Besar Incorporated, local councils and other government-linked corporations”.

He said this was to ensure that Pakatan’s policies, supported by the people when they voted for the coalition, can be implemented immediately.

Without elaborating, he added that the “embarrassing” incident, where a Pakatan elected representative was shoo-ed away from a Petaling Jaya City Council meeting, should never recur.

Saifuddin told Sinar Harian that he would only know about his new job scope when he meets Khalid on Friday.

Asked about Azmin's statement after the Pakatan leadership council meeting in Petaling Jaya this afternoon, PKR de facto leader Anwar declined to comment but said he would consult his deputy on the matter.

"I will advise him accordingly," Anwar said, curtly.
