Anwar, Kit Siang 'also on Sabah ban list'

Sabah, known as the land beneath the wind. It welcomes visitors from near and far. But not its own people from within. If you can, then thank your lucky star.

Spinnot: Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang, Rafizi Ramli, Nurul Izzah Anwar and other Pakatan Rakyat leaders are barred from entering Sabah because politically they pose a serious threat to the ruling Sabah Umno, especially CM Musa Aman himself.

Pakatan won 11 state seats in the May election, a major increase from one seat in 2008. The opposition could have won 20 state seats if they could have agreed on a united front to fight BN.

Even with 12 seats (Pakatan 11, Star 1), the opposition could exert considerable pressure on the BN state government and Musa.

Umno Sabah is divided into several factions. Non-Musa factions could extract more favours from Musa now as without their support, Musa may not survive a no-confidence vote in the Sabah state assembly.

Gerard Lourdesamy: Why not just ban all 89 Pakatan MPs from entering Sabah together with their 229 assemblypersons? Better still, ban the 51 percent of voters who supported Pakatan from entering Sabah.

This is a clear case of abuse of power and misfeasance in office by the Sabah CM. If he had the guts, he should have banned them before GE13 and not after. Is he so scared that Pakatan can topple his government in Sabah?

This move to the right instigated by the Umno warlords is only going to make the rakyat more angry and cause the BN to lose even more support among the voters.

Even rural voters are not going to buy into this farce from BN. If Pakatan leaders have always been depicted as anti-national, riotous and violent by the BN and mainstream media, why is BN only taking steps now?

Pakatan should challenge the ban in court as it smacks of arbitrariness, irrationality and procedural impropriety. It is devoid of proportionality in the absence of any credible threat to law and order.

Not Confused: It's pretty obvious really - you ban something because either you don't agree with it, or you are plain scared of it. In this case, those on the banned list clearly fit both scenarios.

They obviously do not agree with Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman and he is so scared of them that he bans them from entering "his" state.

He is scared that they might raise the level of awareness of his wrongdoings among his compliant voters. Pathetic really, isn't it?

Harapanbaru: How revealing. Musa Aman can't even spell Nurul Izzah and Rafizi Ramli correctly.

All he knows is to accept fat commissions from verminous logging agents like Michael Chia. This rotten crook will hang for his crimes against humanity and the environment. There shall be no mercy for Musa.

Appum: The trouble with these BN leaders is that because they have been in power so long, they treat the country as their own personal property. They have conveniently forgotten that they are actually the servants of the rakyat and the rakyat are the masters.

I don't think anything will change for the better if these guys remain in power. Things will only get worse from now on. You'll see.

Argonist: This needs the people of Sabah to come out and voice their opposition to their government's draconian measures to curb democracy.

If not, the people of Sabah can expect the heinous government to turn their guns at every other democratic right of the people in Sabah to crush their spirit in the next GE.

Silence will not assure you of your rights in future and you will have a government that will dictate how you must live your lives whether in the jungles of Sabah or the cities/towns of Sabah. This applies to Sarawak too.

Odin: It is high time that Musa Aman and Sarawak CM Abdul Taib Mahmud are challenged in court on this issue. It must be established once and for all as to:

1) whether they have acted really in the interest of Sabahans and Sarawakians respectively or of their own; and

2) whether the pertinent law allows barring of people other than those of the two states from entering merely on the two chief ministers' perception or belief that the would-be visitors have ill intentions or if they must provide unassailable evidence that the latter have such designs before exercising their rights to bar entry.

Iamleavingbutdecidedtostay: The last I looked at my passport, the only country I was not allowed to enter was Israel. But Israelis can come here and advise the government.
