The Public Works Department (PWD) said it has not received any request from Shah Alam parliamentarian Khalid Abdul Samad to visit the construction site of the long-delayed Shah Alam Hospital.

NONE However, in a letter to Malaysiakini , PWD deputy director (business sector) Adanan Mohamed Hussain said it can still arrange a site visit if the MP is interested.

Adanan said that to date, Khalid ( left ) has only communicated his interest to project contractor Gadang Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd, who had then advised him to contact the PWD's representative for the project.

“However, the PWD's health division has to date not received any application by the MP to visit the Shah Alam Hospital construction site. The health division will be able to arrange the visit,” he said.

Khalid had last week lamented that he is still waiting to hear from the PWD, four months after he had applied to the department to allow him to visit the site.

The PAS MP had claimed that he had submitted the letter to the state PWD, which in turn advised him to obtain approval from the federal PWD. He said he had complied with this, but no reply was given.

When contacted, Khalid insisted that he had indeed sent a letter to the relevant PWD department, requesting a site visit.

"The letter was addressed to W Mohd Saipallah - who is the senior construction general manager for the Shah Alam Hospital Package 2 - through the PWD's health department at the PWD headquarters," he said in a text message to Malaysiakini .

He said that the address his office used was actually provided by the contractor, Gadang.

Work on the hospital, in Section 7 of Shah Alam, resumed on Oct 19, 2010, after it was re-tendered to the tune of RM410 million.

NONE Then Works Minister Shaziman Abu Mansor had said in December 2012 that work was expected to be completed by October this year, with 98 percent of the structural work having been completed.

When completed, the hospital will provide up to 300 beds, aiming  to reduce the congestion at the Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.

However, Khalid, who has been on the case for several years now, said inside sources tell him that the project has been delayed for a further 70 days.
