Despite the Kedah Menteri Besar’s offer of a seat in the exco for MCA, the party’s position to refuse any government positions can only be changed at an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) or an annual general meeting (AGM), said MCA president Chua Soi Lek

According to English daily The Star today, Chua said, “If the delegates agree for an EGM, we will hold it to discuss the issue. If not, we have to wait for our AGM (to deliberate over it).”

NONE He said an EGM could be held only if a third of the party delegates consent to it, while their AGM will be held at the end of the year.

He was responding to the press after a Kedah MCA dinner, on his response to Kedah MB Mukhriz Mahathir ’s earlier statement that the state government has reserved a state exco seat for MCA.

Chua said for now, the party will stand by its resolution made two years ago that it would not accept any government positions if it performed poorly in the 13th general election.

“I am grateful for the offer made by Mukhriz but the party stance remains the same. Any change can only be made through and AGM or EGM,” he reportedly replied.

MCA performed badly in the last polls where it ended up with only seven parliamentary seats, from its previous 15.

Its MPs have stuck by the party’s resolution, with only Pulai Sebatang assemblyperson Tee Siew Kiong breaking ranks by accepting a position in the Johor exco, purportedly on the wishes of the Johor sultan.
