DAP party whip Anthony Loke will deliver a "stern warning" to DAP's Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa for breaking party discipline by attending a parliamentary briefing session yesterday, despite being told not to do so.

However, Er will not be referred to the party's disciplinary committee due to his written apology to the party, Loke said in a statement today.

“After negotiating with DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, I will issue a strong warning letter to Er so that he doesn’t repeat his mistake. However, seeing as he has been up-front with his apology, I will not refer him to the party’s disciplinary committee.”

Loke said this matter should be a lesson to Er and the rest of DAP’s parliamentarians to always act collectively and follow the party’s leadership in carrying out their duties.

DAP had informed all of its 38 MPs - through emails and text messages - to boycott the parliamentary briefing session. Er was the only Pakatan MP who had showed up at the briefing.

Er, who was there to find out whether there were any new parliamentary regulations, was questioned by the media on his solo presence. He then called the party headquarters, which confirmed that instructions on the boycott had indeed been sent out last week.

He claimed to be unaware of such a correspondence and so did not treat it as an order.

“This is my mistake for not thoroughly going through all the messages and email on this specific order to boycott today’s briefing and stirring up more controversy on the current political scenario,” Er said yesterday.
