Around 100 representatives of former estate workers from Putrajaya today protested in front of the Prime Minister's office to demand that the federal government fulfil their promise of building them low-cost terrace houses.

NONE The estate workers were asked to move from Putrajaya as part of the project to make Putrajaya the administrative capital of the country, and were made to move to low-cost flats in Dengkil, while their terrace houses were built.

However, the residents claim that the federal government have yet to fulfil their end of the bargain on the promised houses, while their flats have become no longer safe to be occupied.

"As a result of the people's struggles, the Selangor government has allocated a parcel of land for these residents, after deeming the flats in Taman Permata as being not suitable for occupation," said NGO Jaringan Rakyat Tertindas (Jerit).

But now the people are demanding that the federal government build the terrace houses on the parcel of land, as only the federal government can build the terrace houses.

Jerit said that should the government not take immediate action to solve the issue within a week, the residents would return to the Prime Minister's office in larger numbers to camp there until their problems are resolved.

According to Jerit, aside building the terrace houses on the Selangor state land, the residents want the government to provide them a set date for the completion for the project, and also guarantee the safety of the residents until these terrace homes are completed.
