The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has asked DAP to present more proof of a mistake during vote counting at its central executive committee (CEC) elections.

Registrar Abdul Rahman Othman said this was to determine whether the mistake during vote counting was due to a computer glitch or cheating.

"We are still investigating and one of the major issues is the votes received by candidates in the party elections," Rahman said in a statement today.

DAP reportedly admitted that a mistake was made during vote counting for its CEC elections last December and blamed it on technical error.

'ROS statement to avoid manipulation of facts'

Rahman said ROS had to issue a statement to inform the public on the progress of its investigation to avoid manipulation of facts, such as content of the ROS letter dated April 17, 2013.

"This act is unethical. ROS must investigate more carefully to avoid the manipulation of facts," he added.

On April 18, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he received a ROS letter dated April 17 stating ROS does not recognise its news CEC members, thereby raising questions over appointment letters to party candidates to use the rocket symbol for the 13th general election.

This followed the ROS decision not to recognise the election of CEC members.

Rahman said all members interviewed wanted DAP to hold fresh elections, and added that ROS had no intention of cancelling the DAP's registration.
