The unscheduled water disruption due to a burst mains in Gombak which has affected almost 27,000 consumers since Monday is only expected to be rectified by this morning.

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) in a statement in Kuala Lumpur yesterday said among the areas affected were Desa Setapak, Setapak Jaya and Taman Sri Rampai.

The water supply to the area was disrupted when a 600mm diameter pipe in Wangsa Melawati burst during work to move it by the developer of a commercial lot and housing project in the area, Syabas said in the statement.

Syabas expects repair work on the pipe to take time because of the soft and unstable soil structure in the area and the very deep location of the pipe.

“Repair work which was expected to be completed at 3pm this evening will be delayed until 3am tomorrow (Wednesday),” Syabas said, adding that water supply to all affected areas would be restored in stages after repair work was completed.

The concessionaire said it had  provided six tankers to the affected areas during the period of the unscheduled disruption and consumers were urged to use water judiciously.
