Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin is taking an 'open' stand on the contest for the movement's leadership post in the coming party election.
Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin is taking an 'open' stand on the contest for the movement's leadership post in the coming party election.
He said he had no problem if there was a contest for the post and welcome anyone who wanted to vie for the post.
"I am aware of suggestions by colleagues in the Umno Youth committee who do not want the post to be contested. Our party is a democratic party. We have to accept the spirit of democracy in the party.
"Whether I will contest or not, I'll make the announcement latter," he added.
Khairy, who is Youth and Sports Minister, told this to reporters at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) sponsorship event at his office in Putrajaya today.
The media has reported that Kelantan Umno Youth had proposed for the movement's leadership post to not be contested at the coming party election.
