A Terengganu poet and theatre activist was killed today in an accident at Km38 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuala Berang.

Ibrahim Mohd Taib, 54, popularly known as ‘Ibrahim Orang Ulu’, was heading home from work in Jenagor here when the accident occurred at 11.45am.
It is believed that his car was rammed by a car driven by a 24-year-old man whose vehicle skidded and entered the opposite lane.
According to Ibrahim’s son, Mohd Nazrin, 17, who received news of his father’s death from an uncle, said his father, a veterinary assistant, had been active in poetry declamation and theatre performances in Terengganu for the past 27 years.
He said his father was often invited to perform all over Terengganu and his last performance was at the Culture Park in Kuala Ibai near Kuala Berang.
Ibrahim also often performed before Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Said.
Among the poems he wrote were ‘ Baliklah Wouk ’ and ‘ Zaman Kami Sekolah ’.
Hulu Terengganu District Police chief DSP Ismail Muslim, when contacted, confirmed the accident, and said Ibrahim’s body was sent to the Hulu Terengganu Hospital.
