Despite the stern warnings issued to discourage people from attending the Black 505 rally at Padang Merbok today, the police have expressed its appreciation to all those involved for their "cooperation".

"Even though the rally was unlawful, the Royal Malaysian Police wishes to thank all those involved for their cooperation which allowed the gathering to proceed in a good manner," said Kuala Lumpur police chief Mohmad Salleh.

In a press release late this evening, Mohmad said that the participants dispersed at about 5.45pm and no untoward incidents happened, apart from a scuffle between some participants and City Hall staff.

He said that an investigation on the incident is under way but no arrests have been made thus far.

However, Mohmad hinted that rally organisers might be probed by revealing that the police will be conducting investigations based on police reports that they may or had already received.

Previously, the police had issued many stern warnings against rally organisers and participants, on grounds that the rally was illegal.

However, no efforts were made to stop the rally from taking place. In fact, traffic police were at hand to direct traffic, allowing several processions to take place in the city centre.

Meanwhile, deputy inspector-general of police Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin said that action would be taken against rally organisers for breaching the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, according to a report by Bernama .
