The police have been asked to evict the participants of a protest gathering who insist on camping at Padang Merbok and dirtying the place.      

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) discussed the matter at 5.30pm today and a police report had been lodged.       

"Their action is an offence. We have told them they could not gather there. They could gather at Merdeka Stadium, but they were stubborn, so we have asked the police to evict them," he told reporters after visiting six families of a fire in Kampung Padang Balang, KL, today.       

He said firm action had to be taken because the supporters of the opposition who were clearly stubborn and would create chaos as evident when two DBKL enforcement personnel were allegedly assaulted at the gathering yesterday.    

Tengku Adnan said he left it to the police to act in this case.   

IGP: Police ready to assist DBKL

Meanwhile earlier the the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) said it will assist DBKL if needed, to act against a group of protesters who are camping at Padang Merbok.     

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar said today that although the field was DBKL's responsibility, the police were ready to assist in the matter.     

As at 3pm today, there were 30 tents put up at Padang Merbok by the demonstrators although DBKL had at 10am issued a notice for them to vacate the field.     

"Action will still be taken against the organisers of today's illegal gathering at Padang Merbok under the Peaceful Assembly Act," he told reporters after a crime awareness campaign, here.     

On the critical haze condition in several areas in the southern part of the peninsula, Khalid said the police would assist if evacuation was required.     

He also said that walkie-talkie groups had been formed as the ears and eyes of the police to combat crime through cooperation with the community policing committees.     

"I understand that these committees have been cooperating with the police by relaying information on crime incidents through walkie-talkies to facilitate police action against the criminals.     

"I was informed that there are 300 walkie-talkie users from these community policing committees in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur doing crime surveillance in their respective areas," he added.
