Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor says the opposition has "misled" the United Kingdom over allegations of electoral fraud in last month's general election.

"They were probably misled by the opposition," Tengku Adnan said today when asked to respond to NGO Suaram's statement that a British minister will look into allegations of electoral fraud during his one-day visit to Malaysia.

"They (the opposition) have nothing else to do. They are unlike us, we have plenty of work to do to take care of the rakyat," he told reporters at Parliament lobby.

Then, referring to electoral fraud, Tengku Adnan claimed there were "opposition sympathisers" in the Election Commission (EC) as well.

"They (opposition sympathisers) also work with the EC.

NONE "In my constituency in Putrajaya, we had so many new voters who were brought in from outside, it benefits Husam (Musa, left , his opponent). It's the same in Gelang Patah - go and ask (Lim) Kit Siang," he said without elaborating on the matter.

"Who is cheating here? They (opposition) are cheating," Tengku Adnan added.

In a statement yesterday, human rights NGO Suaram said allegations of electoral fraud have led British Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Hugo Swire to state his government is "ready to support the process of reform where it can".

This, Swire is alleged to have said in a letter dated June 13 to the chairperson of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Malaysia, William Cash, which was made avaible to Suaram.

Swire, the minister in charge of diplomatic relations with Malaysia, had also stated that Britain has "consistently underlined its support for further political and economic reform in Malaysia" and maintained "regular dialogue with civil society groups campaigning on human rights issues".
