YOURSAY 'As long as BN preaches and practices institutionalised racism, any talk of reconciliation is just hot air.'

PM: Reconciliation possible only if GE results accepted

your say Quigonbond: PM Najib Razak called for reconciliation after GE13. Now upon reflection, and obviously worried at Pakatan Rakyat's continued attacks on electoral fraud and the Election Commission, he has decided not only to peg reconciliation on acceptance of the results, but also racial harmony and by extension, public security.

It is akin to a robber pointing a gun at the victim and tell the victim don't report to the police or else. I've never seen even former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad make such kind of threat in the past.

Mahathir will go on strongly on preserving Malay supremacy and blaming it on inequality, but he never shoves a gun down someone's throat and asks for acceptance.

It is simply unimaginable that a purported progressive such as Najib can do such a thing in this day and age when Pakatan Rakyat is already a tour de force not to be trifled with.

Najib should immediately accept that majority Malaysians have voted for Pakatan and he should consult with Pakatan instead.

LittleGiant: It is not right of Najib to demand that the opposition accept the GE13 results before the government can begin the national reconciliation process.

First of all, can BN say with gumption that the country's electoral process was not flawed and the GE13 results were perfect? What about the numerous complaints, with solid evidence, lodged with the EC about serious irregularities found in the voters list?

What about lapses in voters registration exercises? What about the scores of foreigners who were given 'instant citizenship' and became eligible voters (such as the shocking revelations made at the ongoing Sabah RCI).

What about all the contradictory statements that the EC has been making on the indelible ink matter? And what about all the breaches committed by the BN candidates without any care or regard for the election integrity pledge it signed with TI-M (Transparency International-Malaysia)?

I don't think the BN government is sincere about national reconciliation. It hopes to shift the blame to the opposition.

Astounded: What reconciliation? Does Najib really think that he is doing the people a favour by embarking on a programme of reconciliation?

He has no choice but to do it if he wants to govern Malaysia as a whole instead of those who voted for BN. Despite what Najib said about reconciliation, all that have been spewing out of Utusan Malaysia and the Umno leaders are racism and divisiveness.

Nobody believes Najib anymore. He has proven time and time again that he cannot walk the talk. All you get is silence from him when there is a crying need for someone to take the lead and rebuke all the racists in his camp or take a strong position on a fundamental issues such as meritocracy, justice etc.

Pemerhati: Najib said: "The government has plans to set up a national consultative council on unity. We can discuss all issues about race, religion and policies there. But first accept the results."

This is the standard strategy used by Najib and Umno to defuse tension and buy time and then not do anything and continue with its crooked ways.

The most recent example was the setting up of the bipartisan parliamentary committee to ensure clean and fair elections in 2013. But when the elections were held they turned out to be riddled with fraud and cheating and the promised indelible ink could be washed off almost immediately.

This consultative council will also end up in the same way. They will keep on talking until the next elections and nothing will change.

Tan Kim Keong: Two things that Najib is not seeing as to why setting up a national consultative council on unity is not contingent on acceptance of the GE13 results.

First, BN got 47 percent of the popular votes and second, working towards national unity is utmost regardless of election results. Come on, be a PM for all Malaysians not in words but in character and virtues.

Toonarmy: Let everyone remember that this illegitimate PM spearheaded BN's campaign in Selangor, which ended in utter failure because more than two thirds of the good people of Selangor voted for Pakatan and told this illegitimate PM that he was not wanted.

Peacemaker : Reconciliation is only possible after Najib scraps the racist Biro Tata Negara (BTN) course, which is still being held until last week. As long as BN preaches and practices institutionalised racism, any talk of reconciliation is just hot air.

True Colors: How can we accept the GE results when there were clear evidence of dirty play and fraud? No one can reasonably explain the fiasco of the notorious indelible ink.

If there is no trust left on the table, how could there be a process of reconciliation? It will be another ‘wayang kulit'.

Dappy: No way, Najib wants the people to let BN get away with their fraud at GE13. Anyway, as expected BN never honours its promises at every GE.

Come next GE, they will be up to their usual tricks again showering the people with empty promises which they never kept.

Malaysiawatch4.blogspot: As the government, it is their duty to engage all Malaysians on reconciliation, whether or not the opposition accepts the flawed results.

Najib, try reconciliation without conditions
