Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has urged the people of the state not to misconstrue the law for the interests and benefits of certain groups.

“I also urge all parties, especially my people in Selangor, to fully respect the federal constitution, state constitution and the country’s laws and obey each provision stated in the respective laws.

“Do not let any party misconstrue the laws for the interests and benefits of certain groups,” the sultan said when opening the 13th Selangor state assembly today.

He said that the people must always uphold the laws beyond personal interests and politics.

“I believe that we will all continue to enjoy the peace, harmony and prosperity if respect among races and compliance of laws become the practice in daily life,” he added.

The sultan also urged the state government to seriously improve the quality of life among the Muslims, especially in the education and economic area.

“The strength in these two areas is the real fortress to defend Muslims’ belief and dignity,” he said.

He added that the professional work method by the state government will repel all malicious slanders and accusations.

However, he noted that the serious focus on improving Muslims living should not become an excuse for ignoring other communities.

“Instead, the improvement of Muslims as the majority community in the country will enable a positive impact to the nation and the people,” he added.
