The 60th general assembly of the People's Progressive Party (PPP) has been postponed and will be held simultaneously with elections for the party office bearers, which is scheduled before June 2 next year.

PPP president M Kayveas said the party's supreme council took this decision today in view of the fact the five-year period for the party's elections was until June 2014.

"The last time party elections were held was in 2009. As there are not much activities and decisions made at the general assembly, the supreme council today decided to postpone the general assembly and have it together with the party polls," Kayveas told reporters after the meeting in Kula Lumpur.

The meeting also decided that PPP sets up a sub-committee, to be headed by its assistant secretary-general Simon Sabaphaty, to make several amendments to the party constitution.

He said among the changes to be made were trimming down the supreme council from the current 45 members to a more suitable number.

Another change, Kayveas said, was appointing coordinators for each state constituency to assist divisions and branches in coordinating party activities in each state.
