The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will be coming up with a system to allow complainants to access information on the progress of its investigation.

PDRM National Key Result Area Secretariat chairperson Ayub Yaakob said the system would be a continuity of the police's online report project through the PDRM portal and would be implemented in September this year.

"We will provide a password for the complainants and they can access the system to obtain the latest information on the investigation in their case," he told reporters after launching the National Business Investment Fraud Awareness Seminar at Wisma Bernama today.

The one-day seminar was organised jointly by the Malaysian Crime Prevention Awareness Board, PDRM, Bank Negara, Companies Commission of Malaysia and Malaysian Securities Commission.    

Ayub said the project would initially be implemented in Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan before being expanded nationwide.    

Meanwhile, he said PDRM received 351 cases of business-related fraud involving losses amounting to RM100 million last year and 95 cases in the first four months of this year, involving losses totaling RM15 million.

"Most of these cases were related to Internet scams and the victims included the educated and professionals. There had also been cases that went unreported because the victims were too embarrassed to go to the authorities," he said.
