Taib probe taking time over vast documents, witnesses
Kamikasi:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) doesn't have to conduct many cases against Sarawak CM Abdul Taib Mahmud. Why not investigate just one case?
For example, how does a chief minister in Malaysia gain so much wealth to be one of the richest men in the world?
Blogsmith: This is a delaying tactic. The MACC can always single out some key issues and documents to investigate to speed up the investigation and leave the others till later. This is no excuse for the long delay.
Pahatian: If just based on one file or report, the MACC can investigate a person like DAP former aide Teoh Beng Hock, the 400 files would definitely be more than enough to nail the Sarawak CM. The MACC is just dragging its feet.
Anonymous_5fb: There is no time frame for investigating Taib Mahmud. So the investigation for this case will continue without a target date on when it should be completed.
When the investigation is completed, MACC will pass the files to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC), and there will be further delays. This is the usual modus operandi of the MACC in high-profile cases.
And when they are finally ready to do anything, perhaps it's already time for Taib Mahmud to bid us ‘goodbye', and thereafter the case is closed with the files marked NFA (no further action).
WTF (Well Thats Fantastic): MACC cannot even hope to prosecute because they don't have that power, they will leave it to the PM, who has no political will to prosecute one of his ATMs (automated teller machines).
Such a waste of time and money - bring on the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).
Katusha: The MACC should from now on spare the rakyat the anxiety and anguish of waiting on false hopes. Who dare touch the ‘pek moh' (white haired one) when Umno is so scared of him?
Xtaula: It is very sad and disturbing to know that a CM can have so much money - billions and billions of ringgit. But his people still live without proper roads. How could one be so greedy and yet get away scot-free? Where is the justice?
Ant: MACC is giving Taib time to destroy all evidence. So don't blame MACC, just blame the rakyat for being ignorant to vote BN into power.
JustaMalaysian : The longer MACC delay their investigation, the more they lose credibility. MACC will not have the guts to charge Taib as he would pull out his 14 YBs from PM Najib Razak's minority government, and this would end BN's grip on federal power.
Patriotic: MACC, please give us a timeline, would it be finished this year? Next year? In 10 years? Or ...?
Odin: Of course, there is no deadline for the investigation to be completed. It will be prolonged in the hope that after a while the public will forget all about it.
The public has a short memory. But even if the public remembers and the papers do get submitted to the AGC, the AG will sit on them, and then after a suitable period return them with an annotation that certain matters need to be further investigated.
There will be ding dong till the cows come home or Taib drops dead, whichever comes earlier.
Telestai : It seems that whenever we have a probe on a BN politician, there are always "many documents and many parties involved as well as witnesses that are all over (the country)".
When it comes to a Pakatan Rakyat politician, things suddenly speed up and charges can be laid at the drop of a hat.
Anonymous_3da0: I remember that MACC revealed the status of the investigations against Khalid Ibrahim, the Selangor MB, and even had the gumption to insinuate guilt on his part.
Funnily enough, they then went on record to say such investigation should have been kept under wraps according to the law just as people wanted to question them on the submarine commission issue and Taib Mahmud.
You see, MACC was just helping Umno to regain Selangor at that time (which unfortunately resulted in Teoh Beng Hock's death).
Bluemountains: We can all wait till the cows come home. Or we can all wait for the cow to jump over the moon.
Clearly, there is one law for the opposition and another for the powers-that-be. Nothing will happen as long as one is still politically useful.
Ann: Let me see, with all those documents and witnesses, it might take another 20 years to finish the investigation.
I have a humble suggestion - to speed up the matter, why not MACC set up a whole division to probe Taib and hire a few hundred investigators to expedite the case?
Ourvotesdecide: Has Taib himself been called in to be interrogated and his statement recorded by the MACC as the commission did to the late Teoh Beng Hock?
Has Taib ever declared his assets to any of our past and our present prime ministers? It looks like this investigation will only end after Taib is dead and long gone.
SpongeBob: As Friedrich Nietzsche puts it, whoever fights the monster should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster.
And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back at you. MACC should heed this advice.
