By the same principle of fairness, rich Umno Malays must not take advantage of the affirmative action in place - they shouldn't be entitled to fully subsidised education or the seven percent discount on their bungalows.

Feudal, gangster-styled countries are, by definition, backward Third World countries. Until we have real ‘reformasi', Malaysia is undoubtedly a Third World country.

Sa Tombs: These people go around assaulting people with impunity because they always know that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will not investigate thoroughly.

It's about time the courts come out with severe punishments for them. May the appellate court enhance the sentence.

CQ MUAR: Make sure the three accused spend their sentences in jail like any other convicted criminals, and not given preferential treatment like those VIPs in the past who were allowed to move in and out of jail ... and sleep on ‘water-beds'. A criminal is a criminal regardless of status or position.

I congratulate the judge for making the bold stand in passing the sentence. Let this be a stern warning to one and all what awaits them for breaking the law. Nobody is above the law.

Anonymous_5fb: Sentencing is one thing, but serving the sentence is another thing altogether, especially when these spoiled, privileged brats are involved.

So, please make sure these convicts serve their sentences in full. No special treatment, please.

Magnus: It's time perhaps to take a close clinical look at all card-carrying members of the Malaysian constitutional royalty and examine their records to see if they are behaving with the necessary and expected public decorum to justify the consolidated fund used to pay for their upkeep.

Pemerhati: It would appear that Umnoputras like Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz are more powerful than Malaysia's royalty.

Some time ago, Nazri's son too did something similar but everything was hushed up . But this member of the royalty did not have similar clout to cover up his thuggish behaviour.

Mega-tower project set to kick off, groups vow to resist

Game Changer: Is there a need for such a mega project in this country? What is the purpose of this 118-storey building?

Did DBKL (City Hall) survey all other office buildings, including those currently being built in Kuala Lumpur, to see what the occupancy rates are - many office buildings in KL are not even half occupied and to build such a project in this uncertain time would be a huge mistake.

Tailek: Does KL really need another mega tower? Even the Petronas Twin Towers are still not fully occupied and the Tun Razak Exchange is being built as well, so there will be a huge glut of office space.

This is a historical site and DBKL should do something to preserve this site for the rakyat like a cultural centre with a park or other rakyat-friendly facilities, not another humongous steel skyscraper.

Bash: Looking at the map of the site, the project will pose a real danger to the schools/schoolchildren in the surrounding area. That land should be kept for public recreation and amenities. Restrict the towers around the Jalan Ampang area.

Franklyspeaking: Where is the government's priorities? Building another white elephant is not going help the people. The monies can be put to better use to improve the living conditions and living standards of many Malaysians.

Vacant office spaces have mushroomed over the years and we want more? Silly projects like these that don't add value to the everyday Malaysians' lives only smell of corruption.

Skippy: You know, I know and everybody knows that we need new buildings. For goodness sake, we are talking billions of ringgit here. Can you imagine the leakages in money to be spent on this mega project? Some people might be set for life once this project takes off.

Who cares if it's going to be occupied? The money spent will drive the local economy and those who benefit from this need not worry about the reduction in car prices either. I mean, why would anyone worry about a 20 percent discount on a car if they can afford a Lamborghini?

Really, this project is a do-or-die. They do and others die. That's the spirit.

Ruslan Bahari: If at all, a centre for sporting excellence should be built here.

With the MRT in front of Davidson School, access will be a breeze. Pump money instead to refurbish the ailing stadiums (toilets, seats, facilities) and this can be our own Central Park like the one in New York.

Come on BN, show us you are listening, and turn this into a Warisan Merdeka Sports Centre and Public Park.

CiViC: It is a requirement for any development to put up its plans for public viewing and objection, which should be given due respect. But only in Malaysia, the government doesn't give a damn about what the people think.

They are after the big backhanders from this project and nothing is going to stop them. They are more blatantly daring than those parang-wielding robbers.
