Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has admitted that several programmes implemented since 2008 under the Merakyat Ekonomi Selangor (MES) policy have not adequately reached the target groups.

NONE At the state assembly sitting today, he said the schemes cover free water, as well as aid for children and senior citizens, but that efforts are underway to improve coverage.

He was answering Hasbullah Mohd Ridzwan (PAS-Gombak Setia) as to how the state can improve the MES and its promotion among the people.

Khalid said the state government could develop a MES portal for the people to get more information on such programmes. 

He also said the state government plans to create a bonus system for those working at the various MES service centres when they achieve certain targets.

“With this we hope to increase the people's participation in the MES programmes,” said Khalid. 

Replying a question from Ng Suee Lim (DAP-Sekinchan), Khalid said the state’s cash and investment account stood at RM2.619 billion as at Dec 31, 2012 and the state government's finances are at a satisfactory level.
