There is no need for Election Commission (EC) chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusoff to be suspended during the investigation against it by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

"I don't think that is necessary," he said curtly when if the EC chief should be suspended when the EC is investigated over the delivery of the indelible ink used in the May 5 general election.

MACC has said it has set up a special task force to investigate the EC's indelible ink fiasco, right after Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Shahidan Kassim revealed last week that a major component of the ink was plain food colouring .

The EC had claimed prior to GE13 that the indelible ink would last seven days, but many individuals complained that the ink could be easily removed a few hours after being applied.

In total, the EC spent RM400 million to run the 13th general election, of which RM7 million was used for the ink alone.

Muhyiddin did not want to comment on the investigation, saying that both MACC and EC were agencies in their own right and the MACC should be allowed to carry on any investigation deemed necessary.
