The Automated Enforcement System (AES) still remains in operation at 14 locations across the country, but has not been expanded of late, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

NONE In a written answer to Teresa Kok (DAP-Seputeh), Acting Transport Minister Hishamuddin Hussein ( right ) said that the 14 AES locations are functioning.

"The drivers who incur AES summons still need to pay the summons even though the charging of AES offenders in courts has been suspended," said Hishamuddin.

Last December, the attorney general had put all trials regarding AES on hold in order to address "legal concerns".

Teresa later noted that if the AES enforcements have neither been expanded nor suspended, the new transport minister should take measures to scrap AES altogether.

"Because the AG had halted AES trials, many people are not paying AES compounds. Taking into account that the people are unhappy with AES, the ministry should abolish it," she added.
