your say FairGame: Now that Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has tried the 'cili pedas', he knows how hot it is.

The rakyat have been complaining and highlighting the serious crime situation for years, and yet we have been told that it's just as 'perception'.

By the way Khairy, I hope the police report does not end up in the filing cabinet.

Datos: Of course, crime is not perception. It is real and the sooner the government admits and addresses the issue, the better for the common people. Ministers too would be able to live in a safer environment.

Khairy, admitting it is the first step. You have to imbibe it into the numb skulls of your colleagues for change to happen.

Onyourtoes: Funny, you need to be personally affected before you can judge correctly the situation in the country. I wonder what your high profile education is for.

We learn from reading, from interaction, from observation and from the experiences of others. For you, you have to learn from your personal experience.

No evil intended, I wish the robbers and thieves would from now on target more VIP homes. At least then, we would stand a better chance to have our security and safety problems solved.

Vijay47: Khairy, for all your hotshot Oxford-educated image, did it take for you to be personally affected before you would admit that the "worsening crime situation in the country" is a reality and not merely perception or the imagination of an opposition-inspired public?

What have you been doing when the home ministers and the police chiefs past and present continuously denied the truth and in fact ranted as though it was a crime to complain about crime?

More important, the public would like to see what you are going to do now. And I hope it is none of that idiotic, "in BN we work quietly behind the scenes for the welfare of the rakyat".

Others may consider that there is hope in you yet but in my book, Khairy, once you are in Umno, you are Umno.

Timo100: Khairy talks now only after his own house has been ransacked. First, he should be thankful that no one was hurt.

Second, why didn't he just tell off the police top brass and home minister straight in the face that they should talk less about their manipulated statistics and concentrate on doing their jobs effectively?

The police always seem to have enough resources to harass the opposition leaders but never enough to police the city and neighbourhoods.

Ksn: Yes, Khairy, tell that to the cabinet in your meeting this week. The present situation calls for the complete shake up of the PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police) starting with the inspector-general of police (IGP) who has been discredited by the A Kugan verdict, and a complete reorganisation of the force to provide the service that the people need and demand.

It is a shame to recall that we had in the past an excellent force, including the Special Branch.

Just appoint someone with calibre and not promote someone because they are ‘one of our own', and our problems would be solved - all it takes are the right leaders.

Sam_296f : A lot of robberies are not reported to the police because the perception of the public is that the police cannot be trusted, and may leak information to robbers or are working with the robbers as partners in crime. That's the public perception.

Abasir: Now that Khairy's perception has been somewhat changed, I hope the perceptions of Pemandu chief Idris Jala and his team of expensive statistics jugglers will also undergo a similar change.

But given the delusional state they are in, it might require some rude intrusion by our free roaming thieves before they experience a similar epiphany.

Fateh: The thieves are brilliant, able to get into these homes with police guarding these VVIPs mansions. The so-called ‘rakyat's perception of crime' has finally hit these VVIPs.

But Malaysians will have to be more vigilant to protect themselves, now that more police officers are expected to be deployed henceforth to protect these VVIPs.

Well Thats Fantastic: Politicians should be banned from using the word ‘perception'; when they have it at their command, they use it to devalue the complaints that they receive and behave as if they are speaking to children.

Will it take the PM's wife having her handbag snatched to make the PM react to our horrible crime rate?

Wiser: If any politician still thinks that it is merely perception that crime has gone up dramatically, I suggest the removal of all 24-hour security guards outside their homes. Then they would feel how naked the people are feeling every day of their lives without guards at their gates.

It is ridiculous that the politicians are hiding behind guarded compounds, telling the people the country's crime rate has not gone up and it is merely perception. Come, let's see how brave and safe these politicians feel without their hired security.
