Dr Xavier Jayakumar (PKR-Sri Andalas) has urged the Selangor government to enact laws to prohibit the consumption of alcohol in public areas, such as parks and football fields.
While debating the motion of thanks for the royal address at the Selangor state legislative assembly today, Xavier (

"Some groups consume alcohol in such locations until late at night and then they leave empty bottles or broken glass in the area.
"This causes disturbances and disturb the harmony and peace of the locals," he said.
Xavier said developed countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States have similar laws which prevents alcohol consumption in parks and beaches.
He also urged the state government to enact laws banning cheap alcohol in order to tackle social ills, which were easily available in food shops, traditional medicine shops and supermarkets.
