The DAP has set sights on young Malaysians to help garner the support of rural folk through community work.

Announcing the Ejen Impian Malaysia (Malaysian Dream Agent) programme today, DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang said the party wanted volunteers, including non-party members, for activities and programmes to promote the Malaysian identity and consciousness particularly among the young generation.

"Being the second largest political party in Malaysia, we are looking into every possibility to reach out to new voter groups who have so far been outside our sphere of influence and to garner support in order to promote the Malaysian Dream.

"We need you to be a Malaysian Dream Agent and take part in the community work for rural and non-cyber communities," he said in a press statement today.

The goal, he said, is to convert the passion for change seen in the last general election into constructive community work so that a bigger change would happen in the upcoming Sarawak election that is due in 2016 and the 14th general election.

"The Malaysian Dream envisions a plural society where all her citizens are united as one people, rising above their ethnic, religious, cultural and linguistic differences as the common grounds binding them as one citizenship, exceed the differences that divide them because of their ethnic, religious, linguistic and cultural divisions.

"Let us realise the Malaysian Dream, which includes restoring to all Malaysians regardless of race, religion or region, the fundamental right to safety and security whether in the streets and other public places or the privacy of their homes," he said.

He added the desire of a Malaysian Dream was espoused long before independence, when Umno founder Onn Jaafar attempted to open his Malay party to all Malaysians, even though he eventually failed in his attempt.

"This is  a worthwhile patriotic contribution to the Malaysian Dream shared by all patriotic Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or region, down the decades, whether in Malaysia or in the world Malaysian diaspora.

"We welcome supporters to join us as Ejen Impian Malaysia through registration forms and online-registration ," he said.
