PAS has appointed its vice-president Husam Musa as the campaign director for the Kuala Besut by-election scheduled to be held on July 24.

NONE According to party organ Harakahdaily , Husam ( left ), who is currently the party's Kelantan deputy state commissioner, will face Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddi Yassin who will be leading BN's campaign machinery in this first by-election after the 13th general election.

Husam will be assisted by two deputies – the party's central election director Hatta Ramli and Terengganu deputy state commissioner Satiful Bahri Mamat.

azlan The three advisors to this panel are party president Abdul Hadi Awang, his deputy Mohamad Sabu and Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob.

The publication pointed out that Husam was chosen as he is a senior PAS leader from Kelantan, which is adjacent to the state seat of Kuala Besut, and the influence and role of Kelantan PAS will be crucial in deciding the campaign style in this by-election.

Abdul Hadi is expected to announce the party’s candidate tonight at Kampung Nail, Kuala Besut, while the candidate from BN will be revealed by this afternoon.

PAS has won the semi-rural seat for four times in the 1959, 1969, 1974 and 1999 general elections.

However, Kuala Besut has since become a BN stronghold.

BN retained the seat in the last general election with a significant majority of 2,434 votes.

Nomination day for the by-election will fall on July 12.
