YOURSAY 'Islamic Civilisation studies has been compulsory in public universities since the 1997/98 intake. It looks like MCA has been sleeping all this while.'
Single religion studies will hurt race relations, says MCA
Swipenter:
In the good old days before the advent of the ‘ketuanan' doctrine, we all get to study the great civilisations and major religions of the world. General knowledge was wide and education balanced then.
Now all that matters is Islamic civilisation and Islam to suit the agenda of the supremacists. No wonder we are polarised by religion and race and that fits into their agenda nicely.
Even our history is rewritten to glorify them and their greatness. Others are not important even though they are the main movers and contributors of human history and achievements past, present and even the future.
MCA is not aware of such unbalanced education until now?
TakeMiddlepath: Islamic and Asian Civilisation Studies (Titas) has been a compulsory paper in public universities since the 1997/98 intake.
It looks like MCA had been sleeping all this while. Look at the Form 4 history syllabus. Almost half of the syllabus is related to Islam. If this is not indoctrination, then what is it for?
Supercession: MCA should be fully ashamed of itself instead of pretending to play the hero. What's the point of being part of BN if your master, Umno, regards you and your views as less than irrelevant?
Apapunboleh: If one is to major in dentistry or actuarial science, why waste time in Titas which will not make one a better dentist or actuary?
Anonymous #69337042 : These people up there are not only stupid but arrogant. They only have the ‘frog under the coconut shell' mentality. To these idiots, Malaysia is their world. They are like ostriches refusing to look outside of this tiny country.
When other Asean countries like Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar are competing and progressing, we are still lagging behind and wasting our time on non-productive issues like religion and race.
Instead of focussing on more important areas like science and technology, these numbskulls are compelling students to take up a subject which is not in their interest and is also irrelevant to their main course of study.
SpongeBob: The current quota system for non-Malay students is miserable. We are heading towards a scenario where public universities will be solely populated with Malay students and private universities will be non-Malay.
This is already happening, but we choose not to acknowledge the truth. Advance congratulations to the BN-led government for this great polarisation effort, rubber-stamped by the other components parties in BN.
Kamikasi: Now you know why Malaysia is ranked so low in the world on education. They don't believe in universal scholastic studies.
We are also in denial that the great world civilisations are the results of the many religious thoughts that had shaped the world.
Let what you do define your religion, not what you tell the people about it and expecting them to respect you for that.
Anonymous_3f15 : In Western universities, you don't see them imposing Christian civilisation studies on you before you can graduate. Many ministers have overseas education experience, they should know this. This Titas is absurd.
Gyros Not Kairos: In an American university I attended, I had to attend seven chapel sessions a semester in order to collect my transcript that semester.
The Chinese and Indians want to continue with vernacular schools, but they have no objections to learning English, it is just Malay and Islam that they have a problem with.
AnSoN: This is how stupid minds work, they force something on you that doesn't belong to you and you must take it, but if you refuse, then you are branded extreme and racist.
Just like if a king asks you to drink poison for no reason nor wrong, but if you don't drink then you are considered a traitor and die anyway.
Vijay47: All right folks, it's time to bring out former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad from his cage and unleash him on the populace. Never mind if his licence has long expired.
Let's see now, there are three new issues for him to go ballistic on.
First, he might say the non-Muslims' outrage and resistance to the suggestion that Islamic Civilisation studies be included in private universities is a challenge to Islam's position in the country and an attack on the constitution and the Agong.
Next, the protest by MIC and MCA against the allocation of places in the universities. Again, the non-Malays are displaying their ingratitude to a nation that has given them rights and privileges beyond measure.
Finally, for now, the questioning of the appeal against the A Kugan decision.
The non-Malays now dare to confront everything precious to the true masters of Malaysia, the Malays, and this represents the slow silent plans of the DAP, and the Chinese (the Indians don't count) to assume political power and reduce the Malays to slaves in their own country.
