The establishment of the Pulau Gaya police station has become a reality, fulfilling the government's promise to strengthen security in Sabah, following the Lahad Datu invasion early this year.

Sabah Police Commissioner Hamza Taib said Pulau Gaya residents no longer needed to go to the Kota Kinabalu police station if they encountered any problem, especially those related to crime or safety.

"There are 265 police personnel stationed at the Pulau Gaya police and led by an inspector," he told reporters at the police station's soft launch here.

He said police stations would also be launched in other islands, including Pulau Bum-Bum, Pulau Mabul, Bangi and Desa Kencana while existing police stations in Karakit, Tambisan and Cenderawasih would be upgraded.
