Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today warned all parties not to challenge and mock the sanctity of Islam to the extent of incurring the wrath of Muslims in the country.   

He said insults such as the latest perpetrated by couple Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee appeared to be increasing lately and it was of grave concern that such actions could lead to racial tension.

"Islam's status should not be questioned as it is enshrined in the federal constitution. I'm concerned that if such mockery is unchecked it will become a trend which Muslims will not tolerate anymore," he said.  

NONE Muhyiddin, who is also Pagoh MP, voiced out the warning during the handing-out of contributions to the constituency's mosques and surau at Masjid Jamek Paya Redan in Pagoh today.  

Also present were his wife Puan Sri Norainee Abd Rahman, Jorak assemblyperson Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh and Bukit Serampang assemblyperson Ismail Mohamed.   

Muhyiddin said the couple ( left ) could not be forgiven just like that and quick action must be taken to charge them as there was enough evidence to do so.  

"We must stand by our principle to defend the sanctity of the religion. We must ensure that Islam is not insulted by anyone," he stressed.  

He said enforcement agencies such as the Home Ministry should also educate the public in order to curb such behaviour.  

The national education system should not be blamed for the couple's behaviour as well, he said.  

The couple, who had previously caused a controversy over their pornographic video clip in Singapore, had posted a photograph of them eating 'bak kut teh' (a pork dish), on Facebook last Friday with the caption “Selamat Berbuka Puasa with bak kut teh ...fragrant, delicious and appetising”, and had included a halal logo in the posting.
